The zeitgeist has spoken. Cupcake bakeries are rising to fulfill the growing demand for this delectable dessert. Even Starbucks is offering three flavors, including the perennially popular Red Velvet.

Is Carrie Bradshaw’s devotion to the cupcakes at Magnolia’s at the source of this cultural movement? Or was it the central role that the chocolate crystal version played in the SATC movie? Perhaps the cupcake itself has a mystical hold over the appetites of those hungry for fashion and food?

The almighty cupcake has a cloaked history, as its origins are veiled. Some historians date the dessert to  the 19th century with strong British ties. Others say its an American invention, courtesy of Hostess in 1919.

Well, we’re ringing in a new year of resolutions, which may include a resolve to diet. You may find yourself missing cupcakes from your daily routine, especially when you see them everywhere. What’s a gal to do? The answer’s in the old adage: If you can’t beat it, buy it.

Or, perhaps more appropriately: if you can’t diet, buy it.

At least Judith Leiber would say so. Gold tones topped with swirls of crystals — this is a delicious accessory and conversation piece that will lend a playful tone to any ensemble.

Is this a supersized indulgence, you ask? Well, for $4,295, you might say yes. Here are the measurements: Width 5″ / 13cm; Height 4″ / 11cm; Handle Drop 9″ / 22cm. Found at Net-a-porter.
