The mid 60s brought an explosion of color and lines to our aesthetic sensibility, and they are certainly here to stay. Why? One theory is that the brain has dedicated a great deal of its activity to deciphering between colors, forms, and contrast. So psychedelic pop art is a pleasure for the visual senses to our brains!
Well, off of the bombastic nerdiness, and back to the fantastic style. Reiss, a UK designer, has a surprisingly pretty selection of bags. I found the Austell bags to be particularly stunning. The navy/sapphire/green version is downright tropical, while the champagne pink/orange is stunning and classically preppy. And yes, they do remind me somewhat of a computer screen or TV set, but somehow that adds to the retro appeal.
It opens with a springlock, and has a slip pocket inside. It’s a tiny minaudiere size. A lovely combination of satin and leather, and $155.
Actually, the bright orange/pale pink is around quite a few stores, as it hits a high preppy note. I found matching resin Kate Spade color café Brompton bracelets and rings at Nordstrom. (learn more about Kate Spade from our StyleFiles.) Plus, there is a pitch perfect cardigan at JCrew too.
Now, obviously a tiny clutch is usually meant for dressy occasions, but this needn’t be strictly followed. If you can pare down with a Reiss clutch on a sunny afternoon of window shopping with your phone, keys, lip balm, credit card & ID in a casual outfit that has a matching top or accessories, you’re golden.

Nice bags! Haven’t paid attention to Reiss — good idea on mixing the clutches with daywear.
