This season, neon is appearing all over store windows. (Though actually, the trend has been rebounding since 2007). Hot pink, chartreuse, electric yellow…they’re all back. But for how long?

The answer: the season, years, decades…as long as you want them to, if you wear them right. Here are some key quick tips:

  • Wear them in small doses, with shoes, a belt, or a bag.
  • Pair them with grounded colors: all black, gray, white, or a one-color tank and jeans, and you’re done.
  • Dress simply in a size that isn’t too tight or baggy, and let the bright accessory speak for itself — this is the finishing touch in an outfit that gets you noticed.

Marc Jacobs has quite a few bags that fit the bill this season. What caught my eye is the Lori clutch by Rachel Nasvik.

The color scheme with her clutch is basically bright and black. This design could have resulted in an unfortunate throwback to the 80s/early 90s, but it works here. Why? The geometry of the lines. The black center stripe perfectly dissects the bag, and the trim outlines it, leading to a bag with timeless proportions. The closure is cute, too — a zip top (so nothing gets lost), and a turnlock fastener to add some dressed up style.

The lining is cotton twill. The dimensions are 10″w x 5″h x 1.5″d, so you can carry the essentials: smartphone, wallet, keys, and gum.  I found it for $288 at LunaBoston.
