Yes, we have certainly entered the era of convenience to accommodate our rushed lifestyles. We’re on the go while hurrying to the car, the train, to work, the plane. So our things get smaller, more compact…and generally, more utilitarian. The style could be described as cookie cutter chic. Now that our technology is becoming more personalized, it’s time that our accessories get a touch of character and class, too. And sometimes, the best way to go forward (stylistically) is to go back. Back to vintage — there’s a reason why consignment stores of bygone era’s couture are still popular.
Here’s a chance to get an accessory that borrows the elegance of the past styles for our renewed interest. The pagoda style umbrella, shown here in red and aqua (but also available in black and pink), are expertly crafted and beautiful.
These pieces are sturdily made with a 16-rib structure (as opposed to the standard 8-10 rib construction of most other umbrellas), which gives the canopy optimum strength in wind.
The fabric is Pongee polyester, which is one of the softest waterproof materials available. Fabric on the stretcher rod prevents the metal in the umbrella from marring the fabric. Additionally, there is a fabric covered runner, which protects your fingers from being pinched while opening and closing it (never a pleasant feeling!).
The canopy measures 38″ long x 34″ wide. An 11″ lacquered wood handle (in either dark red, black, or pink) with a lucite gemstone at the end completes this gorgeous accessory. I’ve seen this piece selling for about $96, but found it on sale for $66.16.
Armed with an umbrella that is built for strength and beauty, you may actually look forward to splashing in some puddles — maybe with some matching galoshes, anyway. Bellissima.
