Signature Elements: This label’s calling card claims the crown of crocodile (and occasionally cobra) in over 300 bright colors (with 20 hues added per year). The shapes are graceful, with plenty of pleats and curves to flaunt the material. Hardware is rarely present.

Famous Handbag: The clutch is one of her most omnipresent designs, as shown here in red. The usual price point hovers at about $2000. Gonzalez makes more crocodile bags than anyone in the world.
Founder: Colombian born Nancy Gonzalez started designing bags in 1988 with a brand called Encueros de Columbia. In 1997, she reinvented herself as the crocodile brand we know now.

Company Control/Exclusivity: Owned by Nancy herself, with her son, Santiago, as president, she is vertically integrated, owning the farms and factories that produce 23,000 bags a year to keep the price point significantly lower than her competitors like Prada that buy crocodile from suppliers. They appear to have no website, except through their sellers at stores like Saks and Bergdorf.
