Most Famous Handbag: In 1992, the Baguette took changed the former handbag aesthetic at the atelier of plastic, pedestrian designs. Seasonal changes in a bevy of colors and fabrics kept women coming back for more to add to their ever growing collections.
Today, the trend towards larger purses has inspired the Spy Bag, available in two sizes. The name is inspired by the design, which has a hidden compartment in the top as shown. It is made of rich leather in various color and fabric combinations with woven leather handles. The leather version at right is available on eLuxury for $2190.
Most Famous Perfume: Fendi – for Women (1985)
Most Famous Outfits: Fendi’s most well known garments are their furs which offer the absolute look of luxury at a reasonable ticket price. Their furs are also famous due to their innovative tanning and dying techniques and use of parts of hides, not normally used in couture fashion.
Founder: Adele Casagrande, who opened a fur and leather goods store in Rome in 1918. In 1925 she married Edoardo Fendi and the brand was officially born. Fendi has always been known for couture and luxurious furs. Their impact on the fashion world grew exponentially in 1965 when they joined forces with Karl Lagerfeld. He immediately designed their current logo, which is a staple in the fashion world and a prominent status symbol. In 1966, Lagerfeld introduced their first couture collection which was so well received, it put Fendi on the international map and they began selling their products in the worldwide. Fendi’s five daughters all went to work for the company, helping to maintain a youthful element to their elegant designs, as well as to create their ready to wear lines with Lagerfeld.
Current Designer: Karl Lagerfeld is the chief designer of Fur and Women’s wear, while the Fendi’s granddaughter, Silvia Venturini, heads Men’s wear. Since 1999, exclusive ownership belongs to LVMH.
Company Control/exclusivity: Fendi maintains an air of exclusivity by creating handmade leather and fur items as well as selling their products only in the most high end retailers, like Bloomingdale’s.
